    The Quiet Mark Treehouse by John Lewis was designed and built by Blue Forest and erected as the central feature at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, July 2014.
    Blue Forest worked with Quiet Mark and their partner John Lewis Retailer of the Year 2013* to develop an ambitious and tranquil tree-home. The treehouse was set within a spectacular garden designed by acclaimed garden designer David Domoney of ITV’s Love Your Garden.  Surrounded by the 34 acres of gardens, the show offered 130,000 visitors the chance to experience the magic of the treehouse; an ethereal haven which was inspired by nature and the outdoors.

    “This years RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show will focus on the themes of ‘Grow, inspire and escape’ and the treehouse will reinforce these ideas. The extraordinary stand-alone treehouse concept was inspired by the shape of a small copse of Oak trees. Its bold contemporary design can be installed independently of a host tree yet still provides the user with the feeling that they are high in the tree tops looking down on the world below.”

  • Suspended above the ground 26 huge laminated timber ribs surrounded the treehouse like the canopy of an ancient tree. Each of the 6m high timber ribs was finished with a unique and sustainable timber product called Kebony, a sustainable alternative to tropical hardwood. Kebony was a fitting choice for the treehouse because of its strength and environmental credibility. It’s organic and natural beauty meant that it looked fantastic amongst the stunning array of gardens on display at the RHS show.

    At ground level, three primary trunks formed from 48 interlocking ‘Medite Tricoya’ timber fins supported the cocoon-like creation. Besides being weather proof and durable, Medite Tricoya can be easily machined and painted. Each of the fins has been stained dark brown to match the external cladding of the building, reflecting the natural bark of trees.

    The interior of the treehouse is warm and comfortable, finished with a combination of a beautiful John Lewis Coir carpet and premium grade Cedar lining giving the building a light, natural and luxurious feel as well as a lovely woody smell. There are a total of 8 floor to ceiling windows to give the room a bright and spacious feeling. A contemporary kitchenette & island mean you never have to go far for some refreshment.

    The development of The Quiet Treehouse is just the beginning of the story for this unique structure. To give the project real and lasting value all the partners / sponsors have collaborated to ensure that The Quiet Treehouse will ultimately be donated to The Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice in West Sussex. The treehouse will provide the children and their families with a safe and stimulating environment in which to play, relax and share time together.

    The ambitious treehouse project and garden are the brain-child of Poppy Elliot, MD of Quiet Mark. A not-for-profit organisation, ‘Quiet Mark’, is the international mark of approval from the UK’s Noise Abatement Society, endorsed by DEFRA, encouraging the design of quieter high performance technology and solutions to reduce unwanted noise in our environment. The distinctive purple Quiet Mark assures consumers that a product is one of the quietest in its category with an easy labelling system at point of sale.

    Sound is increasingly becoming a more important consideration when deciding what technology to buy for our homes. John Lewis’s pioneering partnership with the Quiet Mark award programme sets a new benchmark in sound quality for the next generation of high performance low-noise technology, designed to be in closer harmony with nature. This unique charity/retailer partnership is also aiming to evolve consumer understanding of sound quality whilst working to develop a new era of sound measurement for electrical products sold at the UK’s favourite department store.
