Cranleigh School The Townsend Building

Location: Surrey

Form of Contract: JCT Design & Build

Having already delivered the Roulston Centenary Building, Blue Forest were asked to create a new additional teaching building at Cranleigh Preparatory School that fits seamlessly in with the existing school buildings and provides a learning environment with a ‘soul and spirit that inspires’.

Also doubling as a cricket pavilion, the building has an undulating vaulted roof and a double height void at the building entrance, offering an ideal look out spot over the cricket pitch. The floating timber roof mimics the canopies of the surrounding trees.

Instead of corridors, each classroom has a door that leads straight outside, providing a healthier learning environment…

Natural finishes create a welcoming and organic interior. With a science laboratory and design / technology classrooms placed on the ground floor and Year Four and Home Economics classrooms located on the top floor, the building will be able to cater for a range of requirements.

Positioned in the heart of the campus, the design compliments the wider school style…

Keeping in line with the school’s environmental values, the building is also highly energy efficient which makes it eco-friendly and simultaneously reduces costs for the school. A new drop off space forms a common room meeting hub for parents, pupils and staff that looks out over a newly landscaped garden area, giving opportunities for teachers to take their classes outside.
