Hothorpe Hall, based on the border of rural Northamptonshire and Leicestershire, is a stately home full of history and prides itself on being an events centre experienced at hosting meetings, conferences, group breaks, church weekends, weddings and functions. Hothorpe Hall were interested in expanding the overall size of their venue and increasing the number of bedrooms available to their customers, so they were looking to create a new woodland lodge complex within the grounds of their estate.

the design

A multi-functional event venue hidden among the trees

The Woodlands consists of six sustainable and low-energy eco-lodges with a low environmental impact. The lodges may look randomly positioned, but they have been specifically clustered together in a way that allows for each one to benefit from sunlight and attractive woodland views. Newly landscaped pathways help to create a magical space for relaxation and retreat.

The rustic appearance of the single-story lodges help them to blend into the surrounding natural environment. There are 5 family ‘Snugs’ with 2 double bedrooms and a living lounge, and 2 Woodland Lodges which have 6 en-suite bedrooms. The imaginative and organic design of the lodges will keep them invitingly cool in summer and cosy in winter, making them a fantastic hideaway at any time of the year. In addition to the lodges, there is a large function hall complete with dining room and bar.

In addition to the six eco-Lodges, Blue Forest also created a romantic Tree House suite for individual guests looking to make their visit extra special. The tree house comprises of a stylishly furnished, bright and airy double room and en-suite bathroom. The outside deck offers plenty of space for star gazing and alfresco dining. The elevated position of the tree house provides a fantastic view across the garden and beyond to the beautiful countryside surrounding the stately home.

Blue Forest were delighted to work with our friends at Jerry Tate Architects who assisted in the development of this scheme.
