Alice In Wonderland Tree House

  • Tree house: Bespoke luxury

    Location: Spain

    Form of contract: Individual terms

This treehouse is the perfect example of how Blue Forest can create a fantastical and stimulating environment for children. Inspired by the Alice In Wonderland stories of Lewis Carroll, the magical scene created by this treehouse is sure to inspire a child’s imagination.

Finished to the highest standard and creatively designed to evoke the much-loved Alice In Wonderland setting, the Alice In Wonderland Tree House transforms the client’s garden into a fairytale den.

    Fantastical craftsmanship

A great deal of craftsmanship and innovation has gone into making the Alice In Wonderland Tree House truly deserving of its name. Creative design choices and attention to detail are what make this treehouse a living monument to the wonderment of the Lewis Carroll story.

The architecture of the treehouse is designed to evoke the themes of magic, surrealism, sweets, wonderment and whimsy. The roof is shaped in jaunty angles, the wonky chimney juts out lackadaisically, and the copper turret is topped with a wizard-like conical hat. The handmade windows are cut into uneven, slanted shapes, and these are set against the wavy muntin bars that separate the panes of glass. The door, also cut into a slanted shape, is brightly coloured in a two-toned red and white design, with the white spots perhaps resembling dustings of sugar on the icing of a cake. The circular window in the door and the wavy muntin bars on the windows provide a stark contrast to the otherwise sharply defined slanted angles, giving the treehouse an ‘elegantly chaotic’ feel that really adds to its fairy-tale character.

The cedar lining has been cut to resemble melting chocolate, giving the treehouse a fun yet surrealist facade reminiscent of the fantasy theme of the books. Combined with the fact that the treehouse is circular, this melted chocolate effect lends itself to the impression that the treehouse is a giant cupcake or muffin, or perhaps that the viewer has been shrunken down to a tiny size. This fits in perfectly with the Wonderland theme, bringing to mind two of the major motifs of the Carroll story: sugary sweet treats and magical alterations in stature.

    A world to explore

The treehouse can be accessed via a sweeping spiral staircase constructed from substantial, rough-hewn, softwood timber treads. The spiral staircase features a large rope handrail and a gentle stair rise to allow for easy access to the tree deck where it is linked to the treehouse deck by a short rope bridge. Additional access can be gained via a ladder to the main treehouse deck. The varied points of access encourage exploration and adventure around the garden, making the area great at fuelling young imaginations.

Alice in Wonderland Tree House Collage

The Alice In Wonderland treehouse sets the scene for the whole garden, and is a showcase in how the right structure can be the perfect addition to a child’s play area. The garden has been styled by the client with characters from Alice In Wonderland, creating a fantastic imaginary world where the children can play. To encourage adventure and curiosity, there is a separate raised tree deck with a rope bridge, swing set, slide, fireman’s pole and climbing net, ensuring that the garden is not just an area of fascination and wonderment but also of exploration and activity.

  • Built approximately 10 years ago, this is a fantastic example of how regular maintenance will help prolong the life of your treehouse. The original structure was not built by Blue Forest and there are a number of problems with the structural support system, which mean the treehouse art studio has been significantly affected by the growth of the host tree.
