Set on the banks of the Mara River, within a pristine conservancy in Kenya’s Maasai Mara, Tumbili Safari Treehouse offers an extraordinary way to experience the African wilderness. Designed by Blue Forest for a private client, this exclusive retreat combines luxury accommodation with a deep connection to its spectacular natural surroundings.
Conceived as a low-impact, off-grid sanctuary, the lodge operates entirely on solar power and harvested rainwater. Its design responds sensitively to the landscape, maximising views across the river and surrounding wildlife corridors while allowing the architecture to sit naturally within its environment.
At the heart of the retreat is the Main Lodge, an elegant dining and entertainment space for 10–12 guests. A central bar, feature fireplace and two distinct living areas create a welcoming setting for gathering, while expansive views bring the surrounding wilderness into every moment.
Elevated rope bridges and timber walkways weave through the trees, connecting the Main Lodge with private guest suites, the Owners Lodge and kitchen. Accommodating up to 10 guests, the retreat also includes a private gym, outdoor swimming pool overlooking the Mara River, viewing decks and a protected vegetable garden supplying the kitchen.
With approximately 530m² of internal accommodation and an impressive 970m² of decks, walkways and rope bridges, Tumbili is a remarkable example of sustainable safari lodge design. The result is an exceptional private retreat where craftsmanship, comfort and adventure come together in one of Africa’s most breathtaking landscapes.

The design celebrates the landscape, with elevated structures, expansive views and outdoor spaces that allow guests to experience the sights and sounds of the Mara. Every element has been carefully considered to create a sense of adventure while delivering the comfort and quality expected of a luxury safari retreat.
Alongside the accommodation, the project incorporates spaces dedicated to relaxation and wellbeing, including a gym, sauna and swimming pool. Elevated decks and walkways help connect the different areas, encouraging guests to immerse themselves in the landscape and enjoy the remarkable setting.
